How to Plan a Luxury Trip Without Paying Luxury Prices
Luxury travel doesn’t necessarily mean booking the most expensive hotel or flying first class. A lot of it comes down to where you spend your money and when you travel. Follow these tips to book a luxurious vacation without paying premium prices!
Travel Outside Peak Season
One of the easiest ways to save money is to avoid the most expensive travel periods.
Hotels that are extremely expensive over Christmas, New Year’s, spring break, or peak summer can sometimes cost significantly less during shoulder season.
You can still get beautiful weather without paying peak-season pricing.
Watch for Hotel Deals
I frequently check hotel websites for:
Seasonal promotions
Stay 4 nights, get the 5th free offers
Early booking discounts
Free breakfast packages
Resort credits
Complimentary transfers
Spa credits
Sometimes booking directly with the hotel includes perks that aren’t available through third-party sites.
Mix Splurge and Save Hotels
If you’re visiting multiple destinations, you don’t need a luxury hotel every night.
Stay somewhere more affordable for the part of the trip when you’ll be exploring all day, then splurge on the resort where you plan to actually spend time enjoying the property.
Prioritize What Feels Luxurious to You
You don’t need every upgrade.
Maybe you care about:
An amazing hotel
An ocean-view room
One private excursion
A great dinner
A spa day
Choose a few things that will really elevate the trip instead of paying premium prices for everything.
Book Early
Early booking can give you access to better room categories and more pricing options.
If a hotel offers refundable rates, I also like locking something in early and continuing to check prices afterward.
Use Points Strategically
Even if you aren’t a huge points traveler, credit card points can sometimes cover:
Flights
Hotel nights
Upgrades
Airport lounge access
Using points for one part of the trip can free up your budget to splurge elsewhere.
Look Beyond the Famous Hotels
Sometimes the most Instagram-famous hotel in a destination is charging a premium simply because of its name.
A smaller boutique hotel nearby may offer beautiful rooms, amazing service, and the same scenery for much less.
For me, luxury is less about how much you spend and more about how the trip feels.
